cleaning your tattoo

1

Leave the covering on the tattoo for the first 4 hours. Carefully remove the clingfilm and gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild liquid soap. Let it air dry and then wrap it again in clingfilm overnight. In the morning, remove the clingfilm, give it another gentle wash and let it air dry. There is no need to wrap the tattoo again. From this point you should wash and air dry the tattoo twice a day.

moisturising your tattoo

2

From the 3rd day you can start to use a clean towel to pat your tattoo dry after washing, then apply a thin layer of an unscented moisturising cream like Palmers Coca Butter. Repeat the cleaning and moisturising process twice a day until healed. The trick is to always use as little moisturiser as you can - less is more.

protect your tattoo

3

Your tattoo can take up to 2 weeks to heal. During this time avoid baths and swimming and try to keep it out of the sun - even after it’s healed it’s best to use suncream to protect your tattoo. As the top layer of skin peels away during the healing period, try not to pull the skin, but let it come away naturally during the cleaning process. When the dreaded itchy phase comes, try not to scratch - a gentle slap and running it under cold water helps!
